From the Editors

The name keeps changing and so do the rules, but by any moniker, method, or incarnation, Detroit's annual techno fest will certainly pack fans into the downtown area and get them moving. The ambitious celebration of electronic music -- perhaps the largest of its kind anywhere in the world -- has seen its share of problems since its inception in 2000, changing hands between promoters and producers, some of whom represent a who's who in Detroit techno. While gross mismanagement early on resulted in financial disarray -- resulting in, for the first time, a price for admission last year -- the beat leading up to this year's Memorial Day weekend event in Hart Plaza is getting stronger than ever. Tentatively dubbed 'Movement 2006: Detroit's Electronic Music Festival,' a substantial lineup is already set to feature the likes of Richie Hawtin, Kevin Saunderson, DJ Godfather and 1980s industrial dance masters Nitzer Ebb. -- Brian C.
