Since the Golden Steer greeted its first customers more than 40 years ago, so many steakhouses have opened on the Las Vegas Strip that the town may soon need its own cattle ranch. So why do so many disciples of the Porterhouse, particularly locals, still pass on the fancy trappings of the resort chophouses and head for the less than stellar neighborhood that's home to this Barbary Coast-style hideaway? Especially since their prices have more than kept up with the classier competition? Their back-to-basics approach may be the answer -- the steaks are huge, as is the extra-thick Diamond Jim cut of prime rib. A variety of seafood options and other beef dishes are also available, accompanied by great salads prepared tableside. If you don't see anything you like on the menu (highly unlikely), ask for something else and you might get it. The service at the Golden Steer is just that good, both attentive and discreet.

What I came to Vegas for!
By atjustice00 on 01/28/2007
I visited last Vegas last summer for a work related seminar. I am not a gambler and the highlight of my trip I hoped would be a visit to the Grand Canyon. A hotel employee at the Riviera recommended the Golden Steer. I will thank him every time I think of Vegas. The food was divine, the wait staff superb, and the atmosphere was what I wish Vegas still was. It would be worth the cost at double. If you eat anywhere, eat here! None of the billion dollar casinos have anything like this!

A Glimpse of Old Las Vegas
By lvsrainynghts on 01/20/2007
The food was great!!. The filet mignon was fantastic and the atmosphere was classic and the service impeccable. I happened to be there with a current boyfriend and it was a wonderful night. The old-fashioned round booths, history and vintage decor will delight anyone. If you want a taste of old Vegas...this is where you should go.

HOT AND COLD
By dickschoice on 01/27/2006
OVERPRICED. HALF MY STEAK WAS HOT, THE OTHER SIDE COLD. LIKE THE TURNTABLE WASN'T WORKING IN THE MICROWAVE. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK. VERY INTIMIDATING ATMOSPHERE.
